Our sitting monkey on the tree trunk is a southern Vervet monkey (Chlorocebus Pygerythrus), which is located in eastern and southern Africa. They live together in groups of up to 50 animals. In hotel resorts or lodges you should be careful not to leave drinks and food items unobserved, as the small nimble animals are constantly in wait. Wild monkeys should not be fed as these often bite and scratch.

The Beaver (Castoridae) is especially known for its castoreum. The castoreum is the animals gland secretion, which is actually only used to maintain the fur and to mark the territory. Formerly it was used as a remedy for different ailments. It was so popular that the beaver was almost extinct. Beavers are living in self-build dams.

The Damara Dik-Dik (Madoqua kirkii) is one of the smallest antelopes in Africa. It reaches a shoulder height of up to 40 centimeters and a weight of 5 kilograms. Damara Dik-Diks are diurnal animals, but on days with very high temperatures they rest in the shade during the day and are active at night. To protect against heat they cool blood in their nasal passages.

The Otter (Lutra Lutra) is one of the best swimmers amongst all land predators. Otters can blow air into their extremely dense fur. This allows them to drift on the water's surface without going under. They keep their eyes shut with their paws, so they can snooze in peace. Their skin forms wrinkles and pockets in which they can stow food. The clever animals are small craftsmen and use their self-built tool sensibly.

The Cape hare (lepus capensis) is spread all over Africa. It has a fine, soft coat which varies in color from light brown to sandy grey. The long ears have a black tip. With an approximate lengh of 50 centimeters and a weight of 2,5 kilogramm they are smaller than the european hare. They are night active and hide in basins during the day.
